The filmmaker revealed that he and his mother, Joselyn Coogler, have long been longtime fans of the show. That deep personal connection ultimately led him to approach series creator Chris Carter about bringing The X-Files back to life.
“My mom means the world to me … so this is a big one for me,” Coogler told Variety last year. “I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”
Previously, Coogler also promised that the reboot would fully embrace the franchise’s darker roots. “If we get it right, it will be really f*king scary.”
