Multan Sultans are all set to make a comeback to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as CD Ventures have acquired majority stake in the Sialkot Stallionz franchise. The team was introduced newly to the league and are yet to play a game but have already been rebranded. For the record, Multan Sultans – who have been a part of PSL since its inception, with Ali Tareen as the main owner, were banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after differences between the owner and the board.

Addressing a press conference, team owner Hamza Majeed confirmed that Sialkot Stallionz have been rebranded as Multan Sultans following the request of CD ventures chief Gohar Shah. Originally purchased by OZ Ventures for 1.85 billion (PKR) during the auction in January, reports state that CD Ventures have now purchased majority stake in the franchise. Majeed claimed that the name change was finalized after the approval of both the PCB and the PSL as a part of a strategic partnership.

    “Gohar Shah requested to change the franchise’s name after becoming CEO, and that request has been accepted. Sialkot Stallionz will now compete as Multan Sultans. With PCB and PSL’s approval, this strategic partnership has been finalised,” Majeed said.

    Earlier in October 2025, the PCB handed a suspension to Multan Sultans. The termination notice came on the back of owner Ali Khan Tareen’s continued criticism of PSL and its growth. PCB cited contractual breaches in their , marking a serious escalation in conflict between the two parties.

    “A stallion alone cannot win the PSL. To move forward, a stallion needs a sultan, and we have come as Sultans. It was my wish that the name Multan Sultans remain, and for me it was necessary,” the team’s new CEO Gohar Shah stated.

    He also confirmed that transport arrangements will be made for Sialkot fans to attend Multan Sultans matches during the season.
