    SCORING REFRESHER

A swimmer’s score at each leg of the series is based on their best three swims from the meet, combining both placement and World Aquatics points.

A swimmer scores the following number of points based on where they finish in each event:

    Position 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th Points 10 8 6 5 4 3 2 1

A swimmer also scores the following number of points based on how many AQUA points they score in that event:

    Score Range Points 990–999 9.9 980–989 9.8 970–979 9.7 960–969 9.6 950–959 9.5 940–949 9.4 930–939 9.3 920–929 9.2 910–919 9.1 900–909 9 890–899 8.9

For Kornev’s world record in the 100 free, he scored 10 points for winning, and another 10 points given his time of 44.84 scored exactly 1000 AQUA points.

As another example, Anna Peplowski was the runner-up in the women’s 400 free, clocking 4:00.47 for 877 AQUA points. Therefore, she scores 16.7 points in that event (8 for placing 2nd, 8.7 for AQUA points).
