During a recent performance by Al Jardine and The Pet Sounds Band, Wilson’s ex-wife Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford took the stage to sing “Let’s Put Our Hearts Together,” the tender duet she originally recorded with the Beach Boys legend on the 1977 album The Beach Boys Love You. The moment quickly became an emotional tribute to the late musician.
Their daughter, Carnie Wilson, shared an Instagram post of the moment on Saturday, February 28, sharing her emotional thoughts on the performance.
“Mom was a gift to us all last night at @aljardine409 and The Pet Sounds Band concert! It was a beautiful show ... I know Daddy was there in spirit form,” she wrote. She revealed that Beach Boys Love You was “his favorite BB album and mine too,” recalling childhood memories of listening to it at just nine years old.

She described watching her mother perform the song as overwhelming, writing, “I can't begin to describe what it was like to see her sing this to the lucky audience last night.” She added that Jim Laspesa, who filled in vocally, “sounded just like Daddy it was crazy!!”
The comments immediately were flooded with replies like, “this gave me the chills,” and “What a beautiful moment!”
Another declared, “I’m so happy she sang the duet with Jim. What a special moment. They were both fantastic!”

Marilyn and Brian were married from 1964 to 1979 and share two daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson. The girls later formed the musical group Wilson Phillips alongside Chyna Phillips—The Mamas & the Papas musicians John and Michelle Phillips’ daughter. Brian went on to marry talent manager Melinda Ledbetter in 1995. She died in 2024.
“My Daddy never liked to see me cry- it used to make him sad... but I think he would've cried himself seeing Mom sing the way she did,” Carnie continued in her caption. “She sounded just like the record 50 years ago. I love you Daddy and Mom... your hearts will always be together.”
Brian passed away on June 11, 2025 after struggling with dementia. He was 82 years old.
