Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1, and authorities are working diligently to check into leads and review video footage from that night as well as other nights in January 2026.
While not much is known about what exactly happened at Guthrie's home on that fateful night, it is widely presumed that Guthrie was transported away from her home for reasons unbeknownst to the public. Assuming that Guthrie wasn't carried to wherever she may have ended up, it's presumed there was a vehicle (or vehicles) involved in moving her.
Upon nearly the one month mark in the investigation, NewsNation’s Brian Entin sat down with former FBI agent Tracy Walder to discuss the case. During that interview, Walder shared that she believes that the vehicle could be key in finding a suspect.
"I feel a getaway vehicle is gonna be critical in this case," Walder told Entin.
Walder isn't the first person to suggest this, either. In an interview with the Daily Mail, former FBI assistant director Chris Swecker also noted the potential importance of a "getaway car."
"He’s working at his leisure. It’s dark, it’s 1:47 in the morning, and he believes he’s not being observed," Swecker said of the perp seen on Guthrie's front stoop the night she went missing. "That tells me he’s comfortable, and that raises the possibility someone else is nearby, maybe sitting in a car."
"To me, the car is the key to this," he continued, adding, "it’s one thing to go into the house. It’s another thing to move her. Finding that car will be critical."
Investigators are said to be reviewing hours of video footage and have seized three cars—though it's unclear if any of them have to do with Guthrie's disappearance. Her car was towed from her garage, her daughter Annie Guthrie's car was seized, and a Range Rover was marked with evidence tape and towed by authorities on Feb. 13.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, true crime correspondent for AZ Central Briana Whitney said that the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Annie's car was "still part of the investigation." No further details were given.
Moreover, on Thursday, Feb. 26, video taken from a street-facing camera at a residence about 2.5 miles from Guthrie’s home was shared online. A car was seen speeding down a back road just minutes after Guthrie’s pacemaker disconnected. The footage was turned over to authorities, but it's unclear if it provided any leads.
