'90s alternative rock icons, The Flaming Lips, are taking their 2026 world tour even further.
The Oklahoma-born band has just announced additional stops in Mexico City, London, Jakarta and Louisville via Instagram, expanding what was already shaping up to be one of their most ambitious global runs in recent years.
Known for their kaleidoscopic live shows, complete with confetti cannons, oversized balloons and frontman Wayne Coyne often performing inside a giant inflatable bubble, The Flaming Lips have long treated concerts as full sensory experiences. The newly added cities give even more fans around the world the chance to witness that spectacle in person.
"We don’t do fire but we did do fireworks here and there," Coyne told The Guardian. "We were playing a series of shows in Texas and bought a bunch of fireworks and, while we were playing, we literally shot them off the stage. They're shooting up and hitting us, they're hitting the audience, they're hitting the ceiling, they're hitting everywhere." Then he added, "No one should ever do that. But we did it. We got away with it. And we will never do it again."
View this post on InstagramFormed in 1983, the band rose to mainstream prominence in the 1990s with breakout releases like Transmissions from the Satellite Heart and the Grammy-winning The Soft Bulletin. Their 1999 album The Soft Bulletin and 2002's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots remain cult favorites, celebrated for blending dreamy psychedelia with deeply emotional songwriting.
While the group has continued to experiment sonically across decades, releasing concept albums, orchestral collaborations and even immersive performance projects, their live presence has remained a constant draw. Each tour tends to feel less like a standard rock show and more like a communal celebration.
The newly announced 2026 dates in Mexico City, London and Jakarta highlight the band's enduring international appeal, while the Louisville stop adds another key U.S. market to the itinerary.
With the expanded schedule, 2026 is shaping up to be a banner year for The Flaming Lips, and a reminder that more than 30 years after their alt-rock breakthrough, they're still finding new corners of the globe to turn pink and psychedelic.
