ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Welcome to March! They say it’s “in like a lion, out like a lamb”. Today will be more like a lion cub. Cold and flaky, but nothing remarkable. Light lake effect snow will occur south of Lake Ontario through the A.M. hours, but little to no accumulation. Other than that it will be partly to mostly cloudy with highs only in the low 20s. Tonight stays dry but we got down all the way to the low teens.
Tomorrow will be slightly less cold with highs in the upper 20s/low 30s… But thankfully we will have plenty of sunshine to enjoy. Just remember to dress warmly.
Tuesday morning there will be a lunar eclipse, turning the moon a rusty red color peaking at 6:33am. Right now we predict there will be some upper level cloud cover to the west, so conditions may not be great for viewing, but we will continue to track that and send out updates.
Another thing we are tracking Tuesday is the chance for messy mixed precipitation. At this time it looks like it will be mostly rain, but a mix cannot be ruled out, especially in the higher elevations of the Finger Lakes. There is also some uncertainty in when the system will arrive. Likely it will be in the P.M.
The second half of the week will be defined by a major change in our weather pattern… A Bermuda high will set up, which will act to funnel warmth and moisture from the Gulf into the entire eastern U.S. We will see temperatures getting all the way up into the SIXTIES by next weekend, but expect multiple bouts of rain with that warmth. The rain plus the melting snowpack means flooding may become a concern, especially near creeks and streams. Stay tuned as we track that potential.
