Following her eviction from Royal Lodge, Sarah Ferguson’s whereabouts have been shrouded in mystery. The former Duchess of York has not been seen in public since her granddaughter Athena’s Christening at St James’s Palace on 12 December.
Ferguson, 66, has seemingly flitted from one glitzy location to another since she was forced out of the 30-room mansion where she’d lived rent-free as a lodger with ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following revelations about their association with Jeffrey Epstein.
High-end wellness retreats have provided glamorous boltholes for Ferguson, but have also raised questions over how she is funding her lifestyle.
Ferguson was reportedly staying at a remote Irish wellness retreat, the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa near Donegal, earlier this month. In 2024, she posted a TikTok video from a nearby beach saying it was somewhere she likes to visit when she’s “overwhelmed”.
In January, Ferguson was said to have spent several weeks staying at the world’s most expensive wellness clinic – the Paracelsus Recovery centre in Zurich. The lakeside clinic, which charges up to £13,000 a day, offers a series of month-long recovery programmes and has 15 medical experts.

Ferguson lost her home, while Mountbatten-Windsor was relocated to the Sandringham estate, after the King made it clear he felt the Royal Family’s responsibility to provide her with accommodation had come to an end.
Despite losing her royal residence Ferguson is believed to have other sources of money that could be keeping her comfortable until she figures out her next move – not to mention wealthy friends and benefactors.
She sold the Belgravia townhouse she had been renting out last year for £3.85m. However, her spokesperson insisted at the time that the property was an “investment property for her girls” and the monies “will be reinvested accordingly”.
Book sales and deals
Ferguson debts were detailed in the recently release Epstein files, where emails emerged showing Ferguson pleading with the sex offender to help pay off her £5 million debts.
But despite her public scandals, she has enjoyed some commercial success as an author and wellness ambassador.
A publisher paid £85,000 for her to write two books, Budgie the Little Helicopter and Budgie at Bendick’s Point in the late 1980s and also enjoyed a lucrative publishing partnership with Weight Watchers in the 1990s and 2000s.
However, her latest children’s book was pulled from sale by her publisher, New Frontier, following revelations about her links to Epstein.
Flora and Fern: Kindness Along the Way had been due to be published on 9 October, according to a press release in Bookseller. However, Ferguson may still have received an advance for writing the book.
The former duchess has published two titles with HarperCollins, which The i Paper understands will remain available in print. A spokesperson at HarperCollins declined to comment when asked if there are any plans to stop selling them.
Major bookstores also continue to make her books available for sale. A Waterstones spokesperson said it will continue to stock her titles.
Earlier this month, six companies linked to the former duchess were wound down, according to Companies House records.
It is unclear what the firms’ activities were, but one is related to public relations and another retail. The companies set to close are S Phoenix Events, Fergie’s Farm, La Luna Investments, Solamoon Ltd, Philanthrepreneur Ltd and Planet Partners Productions Ltd, none of which have any public profile.
The exact state of Ferguson’s current finances are unclear. She and Andrew found £18m to buy a Swiss chalet in 2014, but they were forced to sell it in 2022 to help fund Mountbatten-Windsor’s legal bills over the Virginia Giuffre lawsuit.
Middle Eastern benefactors
Ferguson and her ex-husband have extensive contacts in the Middle East, which has fuelled speculation that Ferguson could decide to relocate there permanently.
Among them is Dubai business tycoon Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, who has also appeared in the Epstein files. PR guru James Henderson, her official spokesman for two decades, relocated to Dubai last year.

She also travelled to Florida with her son-in-law Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi – Princess Beatrice’s husband – as he attended a design conference at Palm Beach.
Sources close to Ferguson told the Daily Mail she has been “sofa-surfing on a global scale” to keep a low profile, joining her daughters on work and social plans. One source said she is constantly on the move to avoid being discovered and only tells friends of her last location after she has safely moved on to the next one.

Despite her troubles, she is reportedly plotting a “comeback”, with a source saying she has told friends: “I need to get back to work.”
In September 2025, after it emerged that she had carried on speaking to Epstein after 2011, her spokesperson said: “The Duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims. Like many people, she was taken in by his lies.”
Ferguson was approached for comment.
