Obviously, March should be better for the Chicago Bulls than February. They didn’t win a single game last month. The only way to go from rock bottom is up.
But in the middle of a tank, we still need a reason to enjoy the team we’re rooting for. Some hope. Some promise. Just something to get the adrenaline running again.
So I sat down and found four reasons why March can still be a big month for the Bulls.

With the February trade deadline came a wave of new players. From Minnesota, the Bulls got two intriguing young talents, one more talked about than the other. Rob Dillingham, the former eighth overall pick, was the centerpiece of the deal. But with him came Leonard Miller.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 5, 2026Miller is a 22-year-old, 6’10” forward who was an early second-round pick but never cracked the Timberwolves’ rotation. With the Bulls, that hasn’t been the case. Whether because of injuries or roster limitations, Chicago simply lacks size, and that’s opened the door for Miller.
It took a few games, but in the loss against the Portland Trail Blazers, Leonard Miller finally got a real run, 23 minutes and 11 seconds, which was a career high. And he made the most of it. He scored 11 points in every way possible: threes, dunks, free throws. The shots were high-percentage and at times, momentum-shifting.
He also blocked two shots and earned minutes in the clutch.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 27, 2026Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe it was beginner’s luck. But what he showed was enough to justify a lot more playing time, at least for March. And if he can keep producing like that off the bench, the Bulls’ young core suddenly looks a little more promising, and the rebuild gains another potential building block.

The NBA has been far more stern when it comes to tanking this season. The product suffers when nearly a quarter of the league rests its best players, and is quietly attempting to lose. And that age-old tradition might be on its farewell tour.
Adam Silver has hinted at major changes for next season, ones that could include fines, taking away draft picks, flattening lottery odds completely, or even, in the most extreme scenario, rethinking the draft itself.
Bold ideas. The kind that could reshape the NBA as we know it.
But none of that can be implemented this season. And because of that, the teams at the bottom are pushing the limits, finding new and creative ways to tank. The Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz have both announced waves of season-ending surgeries for injuries you rarely hear about in the middle of a regular season.

— Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) February 23, 2026The league, however, is trying to push back. They’ve sent in independent doctors to verify injuries, and in some cases, forced teams to play guys they would have rather shut down.
The Indiana Pacers bringing back Obi Toppin after he missed 56 straight games, simply because he was healthy enough, is a perfect example.

— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) February 26, 2026What I’m hoping to see in March is simple: teams being forced to play their healthy players, leading to wins they don’t actually want. Meanwhile, the “ethical tanking” Bulls, who are trying to win every game but simply don’t have the talent, coaching, or roster construction to do so, keep losing naturally.
That’s what makes this race to the bottom fascinating.
How do you lose, without looking like you’re trying to lose?
Will there be weird injuries? Strange rotations? Players mysteriously falling out of favor?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
And probably a lot more.

Since we sort of need to root against the Bulls, one thing we need to do is find a temporary team to root for.
That team should be the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Chicago Bulls own a lottery-protected Blazers pick, and right now, Portland sits in a play-in position, six games behind the sixth seed. They might not be able to overcome that gap in the final stretch, but they could get close enough for it to matter.
And if the Blazers win their play-in game, that pick still conveys. So if they find a rhythm in March, they could climb into a higher play-in spot—giving themselves two chances to reach the playoffs. With momentum on their side, that becomes a very real possibility.

— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) February 26, 2026Here’s what you can root for. Deni Avdija is having a breakout season and could very well win Most Improved Player. Jrue Holiday was shipped out of Boston to a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in four years, and with him, they suddenly have the leadership to get back there.
Donovan Clingan has been a rebounding monster, and it’s always easy to support a team with a promising young big. Toumani Camara is already playing at an All-Defensive level. Scoot Henderson is a heavily doubted high draft pick with a chip on his shoulder. And Shaedon Sharpe brings the kind of highlight plays that make you tune in, no matter the score.
There’s also the underlying subplot of head coach Thiago Splitter stepping in under chaotic circumstances and making the most of what he has.
It’s temporary. It’s conditional. And it might feel strange. But if Portland wins enough, the Bulls walk away with two first-round picks in a very talented 2026 NBA Draft.
And right now, that’s worth rooting for.

It’s March. It’s mad. It’s time for college basketball. And as a Bulls fan, tuning in isn’t just entertainment, it’s part of the job.
The Bulls could be picking in the top ten of the 2026 NBA Draft. They could also have two picks in the first round and two in the second. That means, potentially, four players who could be on the Bulls next season will be playing this month.
This is your chance to get on the bandwagon early. To watch the conference tournaments, the NCAA tournament, and start forming opinions. To pick favorites. To know who you want wearing a Bulls jersey before their name is ever called.
The Bulls aren’t losing for no reason. And if they lose enough, no prospect is off the table.
The headliners like AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, or even late-first or second-round names like Aday Mara. Everyone is on the table.
And beyond the draft implications, you get to watch the best of amateur basketball. The desperation. The chaos. The win-or-go-home pressure.
If you’re wondering where to focus, the four most important conferences for Bulls fans are the Big 12, Big Ten, ACC, and SEC.
This freshman class could end up being one of the best in years, and it’s already been fun to watch, even before the biggest games begin.
It’s a good time to be a tanking team. Because the talent pool is deep.
