MS Dhoni served notice over alleged misuse of Ranchi residential plot before IPL 2026

MS Dhoni has rarely found himself in controversy off the field, but the former India captain is now facing scrutiny from the Jharkhand State Housing Board over an alleged violation linked to a property in Ranchi.

As per India Today, the Housing Board has issued a formal notice to Dhoni concerning a residential plot on Harmu Road that was allotted to him strictly for housing purposes. According to officials, the property is suspected to have been used for commercial activities, which would amount to a breach of the terms under which the land was granted.

Jharkhand Housing Board chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan confirmed that the land in question was part of a broader residential allotment scheme. However, after reports surfaced suggesting commercial operations were being run from certain properties, the board initiated an inquiry.

Paswan stated that notices were not limited to Dhoni alone. Several other allottees, including some officials, were also served notices after similar concerns emerged regarding commercial use of residential plots.

The alleged irregularities came to light during an internal review by the board. Following the findings, Dhoni was issued a final notice seeking clarification over the reported misuse. If the explanation provided is deemed unsatisfactory or if there is non-compliance, the board could move towards cancelling the allotment, in line with existing land-use regulations.

The Harmu Road property under scrutiny was previously Dhoni’s residence before he shifted to his newly built home on Ring Road in Ranchi. The present controversy stems from allegations that a diagnostic centre was being operated from the premises, prompting the Housing Board to begin a formal probe.

On the cricket front, the former India skipper is expected to return to action in IPL 2026, where he will once again be part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Last year, we saw Dhoni lead CSK when Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a hand injury. However, now, CSK have strengthened their team by adding the likes of Sanju Samson, Sarfaraz Khan, Matt Henry and two uncapped talents in Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma.
