Hit Novel Behind 2025’s Steamiest Thriller Is Now Free on Amazon

Locked away in every seemingly perfect home is a closetful of secrets and skeletons. In Nina Winchester’s ritzy, gated abode out on Long Island, that’s a crawl space with a sordid history too dark to reveal here.

The wealthy, perfectly manicured homeowner in Freida McFadden’s Housemaid series, Nina seeks help running her household, designed from top to bottom by her romance-cover husband, Andrew. So, she hires Millie, a young woman with a past she’d rather, well, leave in the past, as her live-in "housemaid." Before long, the triangle between the three gets erotic, erratic, and then downright shocking.

Last December, McFadden’s international bestseller was given the big-screen treatment with a gripping thriller starring Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) as Millie, Amanda Seyfriend (The Testament of Ann Lee) taking on Nina, and Brandon Sklenar (1923) doing his best Andrew. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, A Simple Favor) directed with McFadden and Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, Archive 81) providing the script.

Following a ton of box-office success, a sequel was announced. Back in January, Variety reported on the greenlit project, with Feig returning to direct. Based on McFadden’s same-name second novel in the series, The Handmaid’s Secret has been in development for months and hopes to begin filming in late 2026.

If we are to assume Lionsgate will stay loyal to the series, we might be in for a movie trilogy, as McFadden’s series spans three books, the last being The Housemaid Is Watching. And lucky for all of us, all three books in the hit series are free right now in Kindle Editions on Amazon.

Haven't seen the movie just yet? It is now available to rent on Apple TV. As for McFadden, she just released Dear Debbie and is awaiting the release of The Divorce in May.
