India secured a dominant win against Zimbabwe in a must-win match in the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 on February 26 in Chennai. Suryakumar Yadav-led team claimed a win by 72 runs, scoring 256 in the first innings.
Despite the emphatic win, Team India bowling coach Morne Morkel came under fire after the match, mostly because of a particular over of Shivam Dube, where he conceded 26 runs. In this over, he delivered a ball way outside of the pitch.
After the match, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary took a dig at the former South Africa pacer. He mentioned that, because of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s body language, Morkel can feel the pressure.
While the top 6 batters of the Indian batting line-up delivered according to expectations, the bowlers struggled a bit in comparison. When the camera focuses on the Indian dug-out, the grim expression of Morkel is captured, perhaps because of the bowling performance of the bowlers.
Team India started well in the second innings with the ball, but struggled to maintain a suitable line and length as the match progressed. In the slog overs too, the bowlers conceded more runs than expected. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya, the other three bowlers who delivered against Zimbabwe performed below par, which could cause concerns for Morkel, the bowling coach of the Men in Blue.
Shivam Dube made a mess with the ball
The 15th over of the match became one of the main talking points of the game when captain Suryakumar Yadav handed the ball to the pace bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube. Dube was one of the players who performed relentlessly since the beginning of the T20 World Cup 2026. But last night, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, he was not at his best. In the 15th over, ended up bowling ten deliveries in the over, conceding 26 runs.
In 2 overs, Dube leaked a total of 46 runs, claiming a wicket. Varun Chakaravarthy, who also struggled to find a proper line and length, conceded 35 runs in 4 overs, taking one wicket. Axar Patel’s bowling figure was same as Varun Chakaravarthy’s.
“Sometimes Morne Morkel can feel a bit serious because his company is such. I think it is a concern that Varun Chakaravarthy has not been able to find his length like he used to. Against South Africa, he was pitching it a bit full, and the likes of Brevis and Stubbs were hitting him down the ground. Whereas today, he was a bit short, so Sikandar Raza was able to hit him," Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
Tiwary explained why Morne Morkel was not looking happy during the IND vs ZIM clash
Tiwary believed Morne Morkel’s grim face was because of Shivam Dube, who was trying to bowl wide-length balls repeatedly.
“It was because of Shivam Dube's experiment of bowling wide yorkers that Morne Morkel was looking so serious. If he leaves this type of ball and bowls what he knows, he can complete his over and leave. He has that ability. If there is someone whose confidence has gone down in these last two matches, it must be Shivam Dube," Manoj Tiwary added.
