The Class 5A boys and girls basketball postseason kicks off this week.
Eight local teams earned spots on 40-team brackets.
Seven of those eight teams received first-round byes, while one — the Greeley Central girls — played in a first-round game Wednesday night.
Here’s a look at how the Wildcats fared, as well as a look at what is ahead.
Wednesday (girls first round)
No. 29 Ponderosa 50, No. 36 Greeley Central 43
Greeley Central went on the road and dropped a tightly contested affair to end its season with a record of 8-16.
Ponderosa (10-14) advanced to take on fourth-seeded Windsor at a to-be-announced time Saturday.

No. 30 Pueblo Central at No. 3 Severance, 6 p.m.
Severance should be well rested after receiving a first-round bye. The Silver Knights went 20-3 during the regular season. They finished first in the Longs Peak League, and they are on a 13-game win streak. Sophomore Christian Powell leads a deep squad, averaging 18.5 points, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Pueblo Central is coming off a tight 50-47 home win against No. 35 Grand Junction Central in the first round on Tuesday. The Wildcats are 11-13, and they placed fifth in the South Central League. Senior Ladamien Davis leads the team, averaging 15 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
The winner moves on to the Round of 16 on Tuesday to take on No. 14 Green Mountain (18-5) or No. 19 Mullen (12-11).
No. 22 Standley Lake at No. 11 Windsor, 6 p.m.
Both teams are coming off first-round byes.
Windsor, the defending 5A state champion, is 16-7 overall, and it placed second in the Northern Conference. Versatile senior guard Madden Smiley leads the Wizards, averaging 23.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Standley Lake is 15-8, and it won the Jeffco League. The Gators are guided by junior Asher Serlen, who averages 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 blocks per game.
The winner advances to a matchup against No. 6 Regis Groff (21-2) or No. 27 Palmer (13-11) in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Roosevelt comes in with an overall record of 18-5, and it was second in the Longs Peak League. Senior Brooks Reckard leads the Rough Riders, averaging 15.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Frederick is 15-8, and it placed sixth in the Granite Peaks League. Sophomore Caleb Wittler leads a balanced Golden Eagles squad, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
Whichever teams emerges from this matchup moves on to play top-seeded Palisade (21-2) or No. 32 Pueblo County (11-13) in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Saturday (girls second round)
No. 29 Ponderosa at No. 4 Windsor, time TBD
Ponderosa punched its ticket to this second-round game after its aforementioned win against Greeley Central. The Mustangs are 10-14, and they were ninth in the Continental League during the regular season.
Junior Jenni Sorvillo leads Ponderosa. She came into the postseason averaging 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
Windsor received a first-round bye and is 18-5 overall. It placed second in the Northern Conference. Junior Nola Greenwald leads a balanced Wizards squad, averaging 16 points and 1.9 steals per game.
The winner advances to meet No. 13 Golden (19-4) or No. 20 Durango (11-11) in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

After a pair of first-round byes, these teams will clash in Johnstown with a berth to the Round of 16 at stake.
Roosevelt is 16-7, and it won the Longs Peak League. Talented Colorado State University commit Kyla Lin Hollier, a senior, leads the way. She is perhaps one of the state’s top players in any classification, averaging 28.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.
Evergreen is 11-12, and it placed fifth in the Jeffco League. Junior Elle Buenning leads the way, averaging 18.1 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
The winner moves on to play No. 7 Mead (17-6) or No. 26 Northglenn (16-8) on Wednesday.
No. 18 Mullen at No. 15 Northridge, 5:30 p.m.
Both these teams kick off their postseason campaigns after receiving first-round byes.
Northridge is 15-8, and it finished fourth in the Longs Peak League. Junior Sophia Carbajal is one of the state’s most explosive players, averaging 24.6 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
Mullen is 7-16, and it placed fifth in the Centennial League. Junior Makenzie Jones leads the Mustangs, averaging 17.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals, 2.7 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
The winner moves on to a Wednesday encounter with No. 2 Green Mountain (22-1) or No. 31 Grand Junction (11-13) in the Round of 16.

Severance enters the game with an overall record of 10-13 after placing sixth in the Longs Peak League. Junior Zoey Smith leads the Silver Knights, averaging 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
Pueblo East is 20-1, and it placed first in the South Central League. Senior Myah Abeyta paces the Eagles, averaging 18.3 points. 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game.
Both these teams received first-round byes.
The winner takes on No. 8 Palmer Ridge (18-5) or No. 25 Lewis-Palmer (12-12) in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
