Nobody wants to see people leave Survivor when they're not getting voted out. But to have it happen during a returning player season is an even bigger blow. The three-hour premiere of Survivor 50 seemed to have everything, from epic challenges to fan fiction meetups to a scathing blindside. And that included, unfortunately, a shocking medical situation. It was a cruel fate that befell Kyle Fraser, as the Season 48 winner got injured on the island, leading to his removal from the game on Day 4.Here's everything to know about the reason why Kyle left Survivor 50.

Kyle is a lawyer currently residing in Brooklyn. He made major waves during his time on Season 48, navigating both a majority alliance and a secret undercover duo with Kamilla Karthigesu. Kyle won immunity at the Final Four, where he sent his closest ally into firemaking, controversially taking frontrunner Joe Hunter to the end. But Kyle made a fantastic argument in front of the jury, closing the case on his million-dollar verdict.Only a couple of weeks after his win was shown on TV, Kyle came out to play in his second season, Survivor 50. Despite being only one of three winners, he found himself in a surprisingly good position on the Vatu tribe, yet again part of a majority alliance while working a side partnership with Genevieve Mushaluk.

Why did Kyle leave Survivor 50?
During the Immunity Challenge on Day 3 of Survivor 50, the penultimate portion involved scaling a massive wall to the top of a structure. Kyle had helped his entire tribe up, leaving him at the bottom. While attempting to run up the wall, Kyle came down hard. He ran back and started saying to himself, "Oh s—t." AfterJeff Probst asked him multiple times if he was okay, the host stopped the challenge, allowing the medical team to run out and assess the situation. After an initial examination, Dr. Joe concluded that Kyle had injured his ankle, but it was not debilitating enough to pull him from the game. The challenge then continued and, astoundingly, Q Burdette was able to get Kyle up to the top with one working leg. His Vatu tribe won immunity, ensuring he wouldn't be the first boot. And so he was carried away piggyback on Q, impaired, but victorious.Unfortunately, that victory would be short-lived. The next day, Dr. Joe and Jeff visited camp, doing a further examination on Kyle now that the initial pain had faded. Upon performing an ultrasound, they determined that the actual injury wasn't on his ankle. Rather, he had ruptured his Achilles tendon, the biggest tendon in the body. While the injury wasn't life-threatening, while left untreated and without proper physical therapy and a boot, he could sustain permanent damage. And so Probst said, out of caution, they would pull him from the game.
