CLARENDON, N.Y. — A long-time code enforcement officer in Orleans County, accused of stealing funds from the Clarendon Historical Society, was offered a plea deal Wednesday.
According to court documents, Melissa Ierlan, 59, stole more than $50,000 for personal gain from the society between December 2020 and September 2025. During this time, court documents say Ierlan was acting president and financial controller for the society.
Court documents also accuse Ierlan of falsifying meeting minutes to get a $102,752 life insurance policy for personal gain from a person who died.
As a result, Ierlan was charged with grand larceny in the second degree and two counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.
On Wednesday, Orleans County First Assistant District Attorney Daniel Punch made a plea offer, offering Ierlan a deal to plead guilty to grand larceny in the fourth degree.
If Ierlan were to take the plea deal, she would agree to a sentencing cap that includes no jail time. She would also agree to pay restitution in the amount of $102,752.
There is currently no future court date set in this case, and no date for acceptance of the plea deal, Punch says. If the plea deal isn’t accepted, the case will go before an Orleans County Grand Jury.
