Phoenix gearing up for first NCAA Women’s Final Four with several fan events

Phoenix is set to host the NCAA Women’s Final Four for the first time, and event leaders celebrated with a kickoff event on Tuesday.

The Women’s Final Four will be played at Mortgage Matchup Center, with two national semifinal games tipping at 4 and 6:30 p.m. MST on Friday, April 3, while the title game will also be played at Mortgage Matchup Center at 12:30 p.m. MST on Sunday, April 5.

Phoenix has hosted the Men’s Final Four on two occasions, but unlike the Men’s Final Four, which was played in Glendale at State Farm Stadium, the Women’s Final Four will be played in downtown Phoenix at the home of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury.

“I mean we have a great road map from (the) Men’s Final Four in 2024, but the women’s is going to be different because the epicenter of everything will be in downtown Phoenix,” CEO of the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee Jay Parry told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta last week. “And so we want to make sure as folks step off the airplane at Sky Harbor and travel on light rail or Waymo or something to downtown Phoenix, they really feel like they’re at the special event.”

What free events are going to be a part of the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Phoenix?

A series of free fan events was announced on Tuesday, including concerts, festivals and open practices.

“Hosting the NCAA Women’s Final Four for the first time is a milestone moment for Phoenix, and we want the entire community to share in the celebration,” Parry said at Tuesday’s event. “With free fan events, community programs and opportunities to experience the championship up close, there are so many ways for people to get involved and celebrate this historic moment for our state.”

An open practice will be held at Mortgage Matchup Center on Saturday, April 4, providing fans a free chance to watch the two teams competing for the national championship.

“Women’s Final Four Tourney Town” will be an event held at the Phoenix Convention Center’s North Building, similar to WNBA Live during the All-Star Game.

The free festival will span from April 2 until April 5 and will include special appearances, games, giveaways, food, merchandise and more.

On the flipside, the “Four It All Fest” will be an outdoor street festival located at Canyon on Third outside the Convention Center. The festival will feature watch parties, food and beverages, merchandise, music and more. The outdoor festival will span from April 2 until April 5.

A free “Super Saturday” concert will also be held on April 4 at Margaret T. Hance Park, with the headliner being announced the first week of March. GloRilla headlined the event in Tampa last year.

The 2025 Women’s Final Four in Tampa was attended by individuals from all 50 states and from 23 countries around the world.

The city of Phoenix was awarded the bid to host the event in 2020, and Arizona State University is serving as the host institution.

“Women’s basketball has never been more popular, and the momentum around the Final Four, paired with the energy of our ASU Downtown campus, the Player 15 Group, Mortgage Matchup Center and our championship hosting experience, creates a one-of-a-kind environment,” Arizona State athletics director Graham Rossini said.

“There is no better place than Arizona in March and April, and we are excited to welcome women’s college basketball and sports fans from across the country and around the world.”

Tickets for the games are sold out, but the NCAA’s Ticket Exchange allows fans to buy and sell tickets.
