"It’s very clear that this administration is not interested in legal immigration," Carlile told Rolling Stone. "They’re interested in violent theater. Violent theater and dominance over other people. I don’t believe most people signed up for that. Even people who voted for Trump, who I’m angry with, I don’t think they voted for this, and I do think that they can still change their minds."
The administration placed 3,000 agents in Minnesota, claiming to target undocumented immigrants, according to The Guardian. U.S. citizens have also been detained, and agents killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The Advocates for Human Rights provide free legal help to people in immigration detention, according to the organization's website.
"So, you got f–king scammed. We’re living in a scammy time," Carlile said in reference to voters. "That’s what people do. You can’t even pick up your phone without getting scammed. Doesn’t mean you have to double down."
Carlile's performance can be streamed through Veeps for $29.99. The proceeds will go to the organization. The platform is also selling merchandise and taking donations toward the cause. "The Story" singer posted multiple pictures of the benefit on Instagram on February 22. She captioned the post with lyrics from Bob Dylan's "Girl from the North Country."
This benefit continues Carlile's previous work. She was one of many artists on an album called Democracy Forward. The Bitter Southerner released the album last July and the proceeds went to Democracy Forward, which is a coalition of democracy groups challenging President Trump's agreement to transport migrants to El Salvador, according to The Hill.
