ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is issued through this evening. Recent high resolution modeling is showing an increased chance for some scattered stronger storms. These storms likely will contain some damaging winds and hail. A narrow corridor of showers and thunderstorms have been reemerging south of the lakeshore through Sunday afternoon. These storms will likely stretch into the Rochester metro area between 5 and 6pm. Sunday evening. As a cold front advances through Western New York, these storms are expected to move further east toward Central New York and southeast towards the Finger Lakes. Particularly, this area will be worth watching for the development of the aforementioned straight-lined damaging winds and hail. Additionally periods of heavy rainfall are expected to continue over areas that have already seen quite a bit of rain so far on Sunday. The threat for flash flooding is low, but due to the nature of training thunderstorms, it is worth keeping an eye on areas west of Rochester.
Behind this cold front, fresher air will pile in early Monday morning. Overnight low temperatures will reach the low 50s in the highest elevations and the mid-50s around Rochester. High temperatures on Monday will only reach around 68 degrees for Rochester and the mid-60s for the higher elevations of the Finger Lakes. A few lake induced clouds will likely be present in the morning, however, sun will fill most of the day. Rain showers make a reappearance on Tuesday as a weak warm front approaches the Northeast. This will bump our temperatures into the low to mid 70s through the midweek.
