Combine Time, Crosby Chatter, Eyes on Spain, and Other Bears Bullets

Day 35 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I promised some friends I’d send them a recipe last night after I finished making dinner. The problem? I zonked out before I could send it to them. Since they might be reading this, I offer up my apology. I’ll get cooking on transferring that recipe from my mind to a Word doc after I push this post out the door.

This is an example of how special the 2025 season was for the Chicago Bears:

#DaBears had so many epic moments in 2025 that the NFL put 13 plays in their top-10 plays montage! t.co/SEGueSHAaF pic.twitter.com/ubHMV9FK24

    — Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) February 23, 2026 The NFL’s top-10 Bears highlight package couldn’t be limited to just 10 plays. That really goes a long way toward capturing the spirit of the thing. I won’t confess to how many times I’ve watched that 4+ minute clip. But I will say that I noted how many different players were showcased. We saw top plays from quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receiver Jahdae Walker, running back D’Andre Swift, tight end Cole Kmet, cornerback Nahshon Wright, wide receiver DJ Moore, special teams ace Josh Blackwell, wide receiver Luther Burden III, tight end Colston Loveland, and wide receiver Rome Odunze. It really was an all-hands-on-deck effort.

Rewatching the clip reminded me of how fun the unpredictability of this team was on a week-to-week basis. On any given game day, someone (anyone!) was in line to make a big play. In addition to the star power in the video above, we also saw contributions from an undrafted rookie receiver, a spring-time free-agent addition who flew under everyone’s radar, a high-profile free-agent running back addition, a special teams mainstay, and second-round picks who made cases to be first-rounders in their respective draft class. In the future, it would be nice to see more defensive plays in the top-10. More sacks, quarterback hits, forced fumbles, and defensive touchdowns, please. Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images As I mentioned in Sunday’s notes package, I fully expect Maxx Crosby rumors to kick up this week. So, naturally, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero sets the stage for the conversations that will likely happen at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis:

It’s a big week for Maxx Crosby and the Raiders, who continue to discuss his future, as well as Daniel Jones and the Colts, who have eight days to strike a deal or potentially tag him. @gmfb @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/EfztRoorlh

    — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 23, 2026 A snippet from Pelissero:

“If there is a time to discuss a trade, it is this week here in Indianapolis. It is no secret that Crosby has been frustrated by the constant turnover and change in Las Vegas. Also, is frustrated by the way last season ended when the Raiders shut him down with two games to go. … There are fences to be mended here, and everybody has to decide what the proper course of action moving forward. … I would expect Crosby’s representatives and the Raiders to meet. But also there could be a variety of different conversations with other teams about what a trade would look like.”

If you’ll recall, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles laid the framework for his blockbuster 2023 trade with the Carolina Panthers at the NFL Scouting Combine. So let’s be cognizant of chatter that pops up this week. Patrick Finley (Sun-Times) shares four questions the team needs to answer at the Combine. Poles and Head Coach Ben Johnson will meet with the media on Tuesday. Perhaps we will start getting answers to some of those questions during their respective press conferences.

One more Combine flashback: Ben Johnson hinted at Chicago’s offseason plans at the Combine last year. And for the most part, Chicago’s football team followed through on Johnson’s vision. In other words, this is myway of telling you, dear reader, to listen to what the Bears head coach has to say because it will help inform us about what could be coming on the horizon. With the potential of the Bears playing a “home” game in Spain in 2026 being real, I thought it was interesting to see these posts on Twitter/X:

    — Chicago Bears en España (@Bears_ES) February 23, 2026 David Haugh (104.3 The Score) believes it is time for Bears Chairman George McCaskey to weigh in on the team’s stadium issue. Mr. McCaskey isn’t one to do a ton of public appearnaces, but it would be nice to hear from him on this topic. Will his legacy ultimately be oe that is headlined by moving his grandfather’s team out of the state of Illinois? Stay tuned! Over at Windy City Gridiron, Jack Silverstein continues to be a must-read when it comes to Bears franchise history. Jack’s latest explores the history of Paul Patterson, the team’s first Black employee and first Black executive. One thing I love about reading Silverstein’s stuff is that I always learn something new. about a team I’ve been watching (and covering) for years.
