ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Members of the New York Army National Guard were recognized for their bravery during a mission in northern Iraq in August 2023. They came to the aid of French soldiers and were awarded the French National Defense Gold Medal with Bronze Star.
WHEC“It feels good. It feels nice to get honored for something we didn’t think we were going to be a part of,” one of the recipients said.
“It was nice to have the appreciation of our command and our other soldiers and our team here,” another recipient said.
Aaron Taylor, one of the honored members, said it was all part of the job. They had performed similar operations before and were focused on completing the job.
