Weitzeil and Jensen first shared the news of her pregnancy in August 2025, extending her break from competitive swimming. The update came almost a year after she first announced her plans to take a year off of training “to live life for a second” back in September 2024, three weeks before tying the knot with Jensen in a swimming star-studded ceremony in Napa, California.

The couple first met as teammates at UC Berkeley, as they were in the same recruiting class. They began dating halfway through their time at Cal and have been together since 2018, with Jensen popping the question in 2022.

Both athletes have reached tremendous success in the pool. Weitzeil is a three-time Olympian and six-time Olympic medallist, bringing home two medals from the 2024 Games in Paris. She won gold as part of the U.S. mixed 4×100 medley relay and silver as part of the women’s 4×100 free relay. She also qualified for four U.S. World Championships teams, winning a total of eight medals, three of which were gold, over a period of eight years.

During her time as a Golden Bear, Weitzeil was a six-time NCAA champion and became the first woman in history to break the 21-second barrier in the 50 free, holding the American Record in the event for over two years.

A two-time short course world champion, Jensen won gold as a prelims member of the American men’s 4×50 and 4×100 free relays at the 2018 Short Course World Championships. In addition, he represented the United States internationally at the 2019 World University Games and the 2015 World Junior Championships. Jensen was an NCAA champion and a 14-time CSCAA All-American in addition to being a 10-time Pac-12 relay champion.

Weitzeil has not yet offered any updates on her plans to return to competitive swimming, but she would not be the first female swimmer to come back to the sport after having a child. Notable company in that department includes Dana Vollmer, who had her first child in 2015 before winning three medals at the Rio Olympics. Meanwhile, five-time Olympian Sarah Sjostrom welcomed a son in August 2025 and has already expressed her goal of competing at her sixth Olympics in 2028.
