Norman Powell to the Bulls! Chicago Gets Its Scorer (Report)

The Chicago Bulls have made their first signing of free agency, and it’s one of the bigger names on the market.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN: “Free agent Norman Powell has agreed to a two-year, $45 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.”

The former NBA champion was linked to Chicago a couple of days ago, and here’s what I had to say about it then:

“Thirty-three-year-old Norman Powell to Chicago is actually a very fun idea. Hear me out.

Powell is the literal definition of a late bloomer in the NBA. He got better every year of his career but really broke out over the last few seasons, averaging nearly 22 points per game in back-to-back years while earning his first All-Star selection at age 32. Because of that, though, he’s never signed one of those massive contracts, earning more than $20 million just once in his career.

Powell has already won an NBA championship, and all the reports suggest he’s finally looking for his big payday, which is why he won’t be returning to Miami. On the open market, there aren’t many teams that can realistically offer him what he’s looking for. Chicago can.

The Bulls could offer him a shorter-term deal with a high annual salary, and in return they’d get scoring, a legitimate starting shooting guard, veteran leadership, and someone who helps keep this team from looking like a relegation-level squad. He’d also have the ultimate green light in Chicago, and if things don’t go as planned, the Bulls could flip him to a contender at the trade deadline for a solid haul of assets.

Out of the remaining names available in free agency, I can’t think of many who help the Bulls in more ways than Powell does.”

And that’s exactly what the Bulls did.

They gave the 2025-26 NBA All-Star a two-year, $45 million deal. It’s short-term, gives the Bulls plenty of flexibility, and honestly isn’t even that expensive for a player of Norman Powell’s caliber.

I love this signing from Bryson Graham.
