The third day of the 2026 ASUN Championships saw defending champions Queens (NC) men and Delaware women maintain their lead heading into the final day of competition.

In the first individual event of the day, FGCU sophomore Izzy Ackley edged out ODU freshman Addie Elliott to defend her title in the women’s 100 backstroke. Ackley touched the wall in 53.04 to Elliott’s 53.13; Ackley opened through the first 50 in 25.14, over two tenths ahead of Elliott’s 25.37, and held on as Elliott made a major push off the last turn.

Ackley was well off her personal-best 51.92 from the Eagle Invite in October.

The men’s 100 back wasn’t as tight, but it was still close. Delaware sophomore Kade Snyder (46.00) edged out Queens freshman Pablo Ortego Navarro (46.38) by just under four tenths, pushing defending champion Caden Fritz, a Queens senior, to third in 47.30.

Sndyer demolished his pre-meet best time of 47.39 from November’s Bucknell Invite to earn his first-ever individual conference crown.

In breaststroke action, Delaware stole the show as the senior duo of Bri Cottingham (1:00.90) and Matvei Namakonov (51.51) swept both events. Neither race was particularly close, notable given neither had won the event a year ago.

It was Cottingham’s first time dipping under the 1:01 barrier, as she entered the meet with a best time of 1:01.28 from the 2023 U.S. Open.

The final individual event of the day was the 200 fly, where Delaware senior Victoria Novinskiy fed off the energy of her teammates in the breaststroke events, dominating the race from start to finish with a time of 1:55.65, more than three seconds clear of the rest of the field.

The men’s 200 fly was taken by Queens sophomore Nick Karaivanov (1:45.97), who had a close race with freshman teammate Akos Horvath (1:46.05). Two additional swimmers in the field also broke 1:47: FAU sophomore James Shevchenko clocked 1:46.63 for third, while a Queens senior settled for fourth in 1:46.96.

The women’s 800 free relay was fairly clear-cut; Queens dominated the race by nearly three seconds with their quartet of Leonie Tenzer (1:49.10), Abigail Zboran (1:47.97), Sabina Kupcova (1:47.70), and Madeline Foster (1:48.09) clocking 7:12.86 to get to the wall ahead of Delaware (7:15.50) and FGCU (7:17.46).

The men’s race was a much tighter affair, as just 0.27 separated FAU and Queens at the final touch. FAU got out to an early lead courtesy of Daniel Laureyssens‘ 1:33.84 leadoff leg, putting them nearly two seconds ahead of Queens’ Daniel Meszaros (1:35.62).

The second leg saw Queens take control by three tenths, with Stamatis Paleocrassas logging 1:35.92 to Simon Wright‘s 1:38.00. Queens’ Stefan Steyn produced a 1:37.21 on the third leg to FAU’s Rush Clark‘s 1:37.09, maintaining a two-tenth lead heading into the final exchange, but the cushion just wasn’t enough as James Shevchenko popped 1:35.37 to TJ Spokas‘ 1:35.82, passing him to steal the win, 6:24.30 to 6:24.57.

As a refresher, Laureyssens won the individual 200 free on Thursday in 1:32.42, breaking the ASUN conference record in the process and qualifying for next month’s NCAA Championships.

The men’s 1m diving event also unfolded, with Queens senior Juan Gonzalez Arenas the only competitor to clear the 300-point threshold; he put up a score of 303.30 to upend FAU senior Rocco Simonelli (296.25) and Delaware freshman Emanuel Pitts (285.90).
