A major recall is impacting a popular frozen chicken fried rice meal sold at Trader Joe’s grocery stores nationwide, with health officials warning the products contain pieces of glass.
The recall, issued Wednesday, from Oregon-based Ajinomoto Foods North America, said approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen chicken fried rice that “may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass,” a press release from the Food Safety and Inspection Service said.
According to the FSIS, the problem was discovered after the Portland company notified FSIS that it received four consumer complaints regarding glass found in product. There have been no confirmed reports of injury, the FSIS said.
The Trader Joe’s products associated with the recall are 20 ounce frozen bags of “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried with stir fried vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs,” the release said, with best by dates of Sept. 8, 2026, through Nov. 17. 2026.
The products were shipped to Trader Joe’s grocery stores nationwide, the FSIS said. The recall also impacts frozen bags of Anjinomoto Yaktiri Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice exported to Canada.
While the products may no longer be sold in stores, health officials says the products could be in customers’ freezers.
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the FSIS said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
