The defendants pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and grand theft, the prosecution office said. Authorities said they claimed to work for a fictitious San Francisco company and persuaded victims to enter roofing and construction contracts. McNamara and Morgan asked victims to pay “excessively large” down payment deposits and would typically disappear from jobs after doing little or no work, the District Attorney’s Office said. Under state law, contractors can accept a down payment deposit of no more than $1,000 or 10% of the contract price.
Morgan’s defense attorney, Robin Brennan, declined to comment Thursday. McNamara was represented by the public defender’s office.
