Eric Danesadly passed away from ALS on Thursday, Feb. 19, less than a year after publicly announcing his diagnosis. The actor portrayed Cal Jacobs in Euphoria whose third season premieres on Sunday, April 12.
Dane revealed his diagnosis in an exclusive interview with Peopleon April 10, 2025.
"I have been diagnosed with ALS," he shared. "I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter."
At the time, he told People that he was planning to return to film Euphoria for its third season.
"I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time," Dane said.
Dane's character is the father to Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) and the HBO drama's third season will see the characters five years after the events of season 2. The third season began production in Feb. 2025 after facing significant delays due to the writers' and actors' strikes as well as rewrites and scheduling conflicts.
Season 3 of Euphoria will premiere Sunday, April 12 at 9 p.m. ET/P.T. on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. The season is set for an eight episode run.
