Tuscaloosa man charged with attempted murder

Derrick Anthony White, 44, was arrested and charged with attempted murder Wednesday morning.

Tuscaloosa Police Department officers and Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to a shooting around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, at the 1300 block of Hargrove Road, police said.

    Officers found a male victim who had been shot twice, and medics took him to the hospital. He is expected to survive, according to Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit. The victim told investigators he was shot at while walking in the Bonita Terrace area, about 2.5 miles away.

    Witnesses saw the suspect flee the area toward a residence on Meadow Lawn Drive. Police identified White as the suspect and said the homeowner confirmed he was inside.

    Police then secured the residence and called the Tuscaloosa Police SWAT team when White refused to come out of the residence. He eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody.

    White is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond.
