Billboard has ranked the greatest pop songs of all time, and the single—which was originally released in Europe in 1993—tops the list. "Another Night" by Real McCoy was a minor hit in Germany before the song gained major momentum in the UK and in the United States. By late 1994, when it made its way to U.S. airwaves, you couldn't even turn on the radio without hearing the tune.
Real McCoy is made up of four main members, Olaf Jeglitza (O-Jay), Sara Mosquera, Mac, and K.I.S.T.E., though the group had several other members over the years. Interestingly, however, the vocals on the Eurodance track weren't sung by any one in the group.
According to Beat, the vocals on "Another Night" were laid down by German studio singer, Karin Kasar.
Per the outlet, the decision was made purely on a marketing concept. Kasar supposedly didn't have the "it" factor and wasn't made for the spotlight. So, her voice was used on the track, but she wasn't featured in any of the promos for the track.
"Kasar was not featured in the music videos nor promoted as a member of the act. Instead, she worked behind the scenes, lending her distinctive voice to the track while Petersen performed the visuals. This was a common practice in the Eurodance world at the time, where producers often used session singers to achieve the perfect studio sound while casting charismatic performers for television and video appearances," Beat reports.
"Another Night" debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 77 in August 1994. By November 1994, the single reached its peak position of number three.
Rounding out Billboard's Top 3 greatest pop songs of all time are "Smooth" by Carlos Santana featuring Rob Thomas and "Hanging By a Moment" by Lifehouse.
