Campaigning for the 2026-27 SGA Election began Monday morning.
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24th from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. CT.
The positions of president, vice president for academic affairs and vice president for belonging and wellness are all contested, with the presidency being a three-person race.The vice president for communications position does not currently have any candidates running. The election for the position will be write-in only.
President
Samantha Simmons is running for SGA president. She currently serves as vice president for academic affairs.
“My team and I have designed a platform that meets the needs of students from across campus. We will lower financial barriers, prepare students professionally, strengthen academic resources, and improve the quality of life on campus,” she said in her statement of candidacy. “Most importantly, students will have a strong voice and a seat at the table.”
Kyle Porter is running for SGA President.
“As your Student President, my mission is clear: to support the personal, professional, and academic success of each and every student, along with advocating for the culture, traditions, and relationships that define who we are,” he said in his statement of candidacy.
Aaron Rak is running for SGA President.
In his statement of candidacy, Rak said he wanted to change parking prices and accessibility and eliminate the $30 course change fee implemented last semester.
Executive Vice President
Freddie Nelson is running for executive vice president. He currently serves as vice president of external affairs.
“Running to serve as Executive Vice President, I hope to ensure SGA and the Capstone continuously work together in creating intentional change and supporting the student body through my platform, Be First With Freddie,” he said in his statement of candidacy.
Vice President for Academic Affairs
Madelyn Herwig is running for vice president for academic affairs. She currently serves as a senator for Culverhouse College of Business.
“My team and I have created a platform built around key pillars: accessibility, student success, and accountability,” she said in her statement of candidacy. “We will prioritize expanding pathways for internship and experiential learning credit, enhancing recognition for academic accomplishments, and fostering stronger connections between our peers and faculty.”
Harlie Hicks is running for vice president for academic affairs.
“My platform focuses on academic accessibility, communication, and collaboration. I want to strengthen communication between students and academic leadership, advocate for clear advising and academic resources, and work across colleges and organizations to support student success,” she said in her statement of candidacy.
Vice President for Belonging and Wellness
Emma Honer is running for vice president for belonging and wellness. She currently serves on the SGA Board of Governors.
“My platform is built on three pillars: student well-being, inclusive engagement, and community impact. I am committed to expanding wellness and belonging initiatives that support students academically, socially, and personally,” she said in her statement of candidacy.
Marykate Foster is running for vice president for belonging and wellness. She currently serves as a senator for the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences.
“My platform is built on three pillars: Belong, Support, and Thrive. Guided by the Alabama Model for Student Health and Wellbeing and its seven dimensions of wellness, these pillars capture my dedication to supporting students across every aspect of their college experience,” she said in her statement of candidacy.
Vice President for Communications
There are no candidates currently certified for this position.
“No candidates have been certified for the Vice President for Communications position. This poll is write-in only, and any individuals nominated must adhere to all campaign spending limits and campaigning regulations set forth in the Elections Manual, satisfy the eligibility requirements for Executive Council candidates outlined in Article IV, Section 3 of the SGA Constitution, and formally accept the position if elected,” the SGA said.
Vice President for External Affairs
Lily Leitner is running for vice president for external affairs. She currently serves as the SGA deputy chief of staff.
“My platform, Be Legendary with Leitner, focuses on strengthening the connection between students, campus, and the communities where decisions are made,” she said in her statement of candidacy. “My team and I have built a platform grounded in listening with purpose, advancing civic engagement, and expanding partnerships that elevate student voices beyond campus.”
Vice President for Financial Affairs
Alex Soliz is running for vice president for financial affairs. He currently serves as a senator for the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences.
“If elected as Vice President for Financial Affairs, I intend to strengthen trust in SGA funding by improving how Financial Affairs communicates with and supports students. My goal is to make the processes easier to navigate, expectations clearer, and outcomes trackable. I will prioritize clear, consistent guidance for funding requests,” he said in his statement of candidacy.
Vice President for Student Affairs
Anna Beth Frazier is running for vice president for student affairs. She currently serves as a senator for the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences.
“With my platform, I plan to emphasize the importance of the student experience, campus connections, opportunity growth, and student preparedness,” she said in her statement of candidacy. “These four pillars are designed to support students both during their time at UA and beyond.”
