70s TV Legend Reveals the Moment a Fan Went Way Too Far

Lindsay Wagner once shot down a fan request during her heyday as The Bionic Woman. The actress, who played superhuman special agent Jaime Sommers on The Six Million Dollar Man spinoff from 1976 to 1978, revealed that while she enjoyed meeting with fans—and still does—one request went too far.

“I was at an event in one of the big hotels,” Wagner, 76, told Woman’s World in a Feb. 2026 interview. “I went into the ladies’ room, went into a stall, and a hand and a pen came under the stall door. I was absolutely in shock.”

“All of a sudden, I had this image of the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other,” Wagner continued. “The devil was saying, ‘Take the paper, put a little DNA on it and hand it back.’ And the angel was saying, ‘Don’t do that.’ But what I did say was, ‘Can you please wait until I come out?’ And it just dawned on her that maybe she should think about that.”

“I just don’t understand how people think sometimes, but that one… that only happened once. Thank God,” she shared.

Wagner noted that she was not “always okay” with being approached for autographs when she was out with her family, but she finally found ways to handle it her own way. She revealed that she would offer a handshake or a quick hug if she was too busy to sign.

Lindsay Wagner’s sudden fame and her funniest fan request

In a 2025 interview with Celebrity Drop, Wagner explained how she was eventually able to handle her sudden fame 50 years ago. "One of the things that I came to terms with was, first of all, that it wasn't going to go away,” she said. “And two, that I had to be okay taking care of myself in the face of what other people wanted. I guess you would say I set a boundary for myself.”

Wahner set one boundary for herself in a funny way back in the day. In a throwback video from Michael Aspel’s British talk show posted by Celebs Up Close on Facebook, the actress recalled her funniest fan encounter. Wagner revealed that during a publicity tour in England, a group of young fans asked her to pick up a tree and throw it over a building. The Bionic Woman star recalled that she was in a hurry, but that one little boy in particular kept insisting that she do something superhuman.

“I finally turned around and said, ‘How about if I just throw you over the building?’ And I went after him…and they ran away,” Wagner laughed.

Fifty years after The Bionic Woman made its debut, Wagner still interacts with fans. The classic TV star enjoys going to Comic-Con fan conventions and fan meet-and-greets.
