Both the men and women of Fairfield University’s swim and dive teams walk away from the 2025-2026 season with a conference trophy. The men put on a dominant performance to dominate the conference for their first ever title.

The women, meanwhile, rallied on the final day to eclipse Marist by just 10 points. This made for a thrilling final session that came down to the last relay to finalize the top two places. It’s the Lady Stag’s fifth ever MAAC title.

The milestone victories come less than two years after the Connecticut university hired Jake Lichter as the new head coach.

The school primarily won the titles on depth, but it did have one individual event winner on the final night in freshman Natasha De Pree. She took full control of the 1650 event, posting a 16:53.77 to beat the rest of the field by over 16 seconds. Marist junior Oscar Bjering won the men’s race in 15:39.33. It marked both swimmers’ second titles of the weekend – De Pree claimed the 200 free earlier, while Bjering topped the 500 field.

The only triple winner of the meet was Niagara freshman Vilem Mikula, who impressed with a 1:43.74 200 back to mark three for three. His teammate, Natalie Killion, made it a Niagara sweep of the 200 back with her 1:57.37 victory.

Marist University had quite the meet, getting second in both genders and scoring big individual wins from names such Bjering. Few swimmers, Marist or otherwise, had as big of a breakout as Dylan Magda did on the final day of competition. Going 100% individual best times at the meet, Magda capped it off with a stunning 200 breast victory. He went head-to-head with 100 breast winner Max Connelly, and though Connelly nearly ran him down on the last 50, Magda held on for a 1:57.31. This marked nearly a two and a half second personal best. Connelly finished .05 back.

Similarly, the women’s 200 breast was a story of the winner barely holding off a late charge from the runner-up. Niagara junior Alaina Pitton was said winner, defending her title with a 2:13.98, but not without a late surge from Marist’s Rae Dodson.

Pitton would then go on to take another win in conference record fashion with Niagara’s junior squad. A follow-up to their 800 record, the relay of Niagara ’27s stopped the clock in 3:23.62 to end the meet off on the right foot.

    Other Day 4 Winners:

After unsuccessfully defending his 100 back title, Iona junior Kieran Egan picked up a title in a different event: the 100 free. His 44.13 effort cleared the rest of the field by over half a second The women’s 100 free resulted in a dead heat. Niagara junior Claire Gorton and Marist freshman Kennedy Wheeler hit the wall in twin 50.96s. The next place, third place, was also a tie between Carmen del Aguila Martin and Christine Lazari (51.30) Iona had another victorious year in the men’s 400 free relay. 100 free winner Egan was joined by his teammates James Gonzalez, Nate Wales, and Harry Platt for a 2:58.78 outing. The 200 fly winners of both genders both scored new best times and won their first titles. Sacred Heart Junior Sophia Velleco posted a 2:02.03 before handing the pool over to Niagara sophomore Ethan Hunter. Hunter’s 1:49.87 win was his first time under 1:51 (apart from the 1:49.61 he went in prelims).
