Division I conference season is officially among us. The northeast-based Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) took to the blocks for their first relay-loaded session earlier this evening.

The Niagara and Fairfield women kicked things off to the most electric start possible in the women’s 200 medley relay. The teams’ two respective butterflies, Allie Bashor and Chloe Vlaeminck, touched six one hundredths apart with a fifty to go. Niagara’s Megan Jackson and Fairfield freshman Rylie Bauman kept the final leg neck-and-neck, both splitting 23.2s, but it was Bauman and Fairfield that got the win. The Connecticut school successfully defended its title in the event, going 1:41.22. Niagara settled for silver in 1:41.27. Notably, Fairfield won back-to-back titles with different women on all but one leg from last year (breaststroker Tone Sandsjoe was the only constant).

Marist finished third place in the first event, brought home by a lightning-quick 22.54 anchor from freshman Anna Kirby. This marked the fastest freestyle split of the field by seven tenths.

Then came the men’s 200 medley relay. Just like the women’s event, winning team Iona defended its 2025 title. Junior Kieran Egan provided clear water with a 21.89 backstroke leadoff, the lone swimmer under 22.5. Sophomore Max Buchen took the reins on breaststroke before handing it over to freshman Julian Wyatt on fly. Finally, Nick Patino brought the Gaels home to a final time of 1:26.89. This stands three tenths off the school’s conference record from 2025.

Niagara women avenged their earlier narrow loss with a conference record victory of 7:21.72 in the 800 free relay. This record was their own; in fact, it consisted of the exact same four women in the same order from this meet last year: Natalie Killion, Megan Jackson, Claire Gorton, and Mary Carl. All four women are in their junior year, meaning the foursome could get a third crack at the record next year.

Fairfield University topped the men’s 800 free relay field handily, posting a new school record of 6:30.60. The Stags elected Tim Regan, Jochi Nolla, Balazs Ament, and Aidan Schapf as their relay members, beating out runner-up Marist by nearly three seconds. Schnapf was the fastest split of the field in 1:36.89, while Fairfield’s female lead-off also produced the field’s fastest split (Natasha De Pree – 1:48.17).

Sacred Heart University made huge strides in women’s diving. They brought home the 1m diving title thanks to sophomore Sinclair Yadao, and they accounted for three of the top four and half of the A final.
