Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank with the club in danger of relegation from the Premier League.
Frank’s reign culminated in a toxic 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday night, extending a run of just two wins from 16 Premier League games.
Spurs have not won a league match in 2026 and have plummeted to 16th in the table.
The Danish head coach was appointed in June, succeeding Ange Postecoglou, but his reign was dominated by criticism of his style of play. Home form also nosedived with just two league wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium all season against Burnley and Brentford.
His squad was decimated by injury and for the majority of his reign, he was forced to do without three of Spurs’ most creative players – Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke.
Early signs of progress, such as the 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad, seemed to indicate Tottenham were taking strides following a chaotic 2024-25 season in which they won the Europa League but finished 17th.
Yet the board’s demand for “more wins, more often”, laid out in a statement after Daniel Levy’s exit earlier this season, did not transpire.
The changing dynamics of the boardroom also played a part in his early exit. Levy oversaw his appointment but the move was not unanimously supported internally.
Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, members of the Lewis family and sporting director Johan Lange will take a much more active role in choosing his replacement.
