Trinidad Chambliss’s fight to return to Ole Miss for a final season in 2026 doesn’t appear over just yet.
Less than a week after the NCAA denied the quarterback’s request for a medical redshirt that would grant him a sixth year of eligibility, Ole Miss has reportedly requested a “reconsideration” of the case, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellinger.
“The reconsideration method is available for schools and players who have new information or evidence related to the case,” Dellinger reported.
Chambliss enjoyed a banner year for Ole Miss after signing with the Rebels out of the transfer portal after a Division II national championship at Ferris State. He started the 2025 season behind Austin Simmons on the depth chart but took over as a starter after Simmons suffered an ankle injury, eventually coming one win short of leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Chambliss, who redshirted at Ferris State in 2021, didn’t play in 2022 after dealing with what he termed “persistent respiratory issues” and sought to retroactively receive a medical redshirt for that season. That would pave the way for a return to Oxford in 2026, where he’d be a considerable Heisman Trophy favorite.
Even though that request was denied, Chambliss and Ole Miss are hoping new submissions to the NCAA will ultimately lead to a decision in their favor.
