Netflix quietly increases UK prices for its subscriptions – but by how much?

Netflix has upped the price of its UK subscriptions for the first time since February 2025.

This new price hike means that the cheapest subscription for the platform, which was previously priced at £5.99, has risen by around a third to £7.99 a month.

Other pricing changes affect the Standard tier, which has risen from £12.99 to £13.99, while Premium has risen from £18.99 to £20.99.

The new UK pricing was implemented on Thursday 3 September and applies to new and existing customers.

Confirming the changes to Deadline, Netflix said the price rises "reflect improvements to our wide range of entertainment and the quality of our service".

The streamer’s statement added: "Our approach remains the same: we continue offering a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs, and as we deliver more value to our members, we reinvest in quality entertainment and improve their experience by updating our prices.

"We know members have never had more choices in entertainment, and we're committed to delivering an experience that meets and exceeds their expectations."

Netflix generated $45.2 billion (£33.4 billion) in revenue last year, which was 17 per cent higher than 2024. The operating profit for the worldwide streamer was a whopping $13.3 billion (£9.8 billion) for the year also.

With a library of UK originals including the likes of the recently released second season of The Gentlemen and this year's anticipated Peaky Blinders film, the streamer will be hoping that the content on offer is enough to keep subscribers and attract new viewers.

Earlier this year, Sky announced a "world-first" subscription package that brought Netflix, Disney+, Hayu and HBO Max under one umbrella, with the broadcaster aiming to entice viewers by offering its Sky Ultimate TV package for less than the combined prices of the individual streamers.
