Bruce Springsteen has earned himself yet another milestone after releasing a powerful new protest song in response to recent immigration enforcement in the U.S. Thanks to "Streets of Minneapolis," the iconic singer-songwriter, 76, topped Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart for the first time.
The track sold a whopping 16,000 downloads in just two days and "is drawing attention for its pointed subject matter, inspired by events surrounding ICE activity in Minneapolis," the magazine noted this past week.

The Digital Song Sales survey began in 2004 following the proliferation of paid downloads on the internet, Billboard reports. Springsteen claimed the biggest of nine debuts this past week on the now-coveted chart, and one of a trio of top 10, Forbes noted on Saturday, Feb. 7. “Streets of Minneapolis” beat out “Aperture” by Harry Styles and “Let ‘Em Know” from hip-hop musician T.I. Those singles opened at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
The Boss wrote and recorded his anti-ICE song following the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis in January amid Operation Metro Surge, during which undocumented immigrants have been targeted and apprehended by immigration-enforcement agents.
“I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis,” Springsteen wrote on Instagram Jan. 28. “It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.”
He signed the post, “Stay free, Bruce Springsteen.”
