We're at the midway point in Season 13 of When Calls the Heart and we finally learned who the culprit is behind the wildfires. If you haven't watched the episode yet, stop reading as there are spoilers ahead. If you have seen the episode, is it who you thought? It was definitely who I suspected from the get go.

What happened in tonight's When Calls the Heart episode?

We discovered that it was not the boys that started the fire with the remains for their campire, but it Pioneer Electric's transformer blowing that cause the fires. By promoting Christopher (James Drew Dean) and having him do all the dirty work of disposing the evidence, Pioneer Electric hoped they could wash their hands clean of it. Unluckily for them, Christopher has a conscience.

Henry Asks Joseph for Advice

Joseph (Viv Leacock) enters the church where he finds Henry (Martin Cummins) sitting in one of the pews. Henry offers to leave but Joseph says there’s no need so Henry offers to help instead. He ends up asking the preacher for some advice and posits the question, “What do you do if someone you love did something horrible?” Joseph offers up his own internal struggles with the possibility that Cooper (Elias Leacock) may have started the fire.

Lee's Having Dreams Rosemary's Ready to Analyze

Lee (Kavan Smith) is fishing but can’t seem to reel in his catch. Turns out he’s dreaming and he’s telling Rosemary (Pascale Hutton), who is now his self-appointed therapist. Referring to her Freudian textbook, she determines he needs to bring something to the surface. He wants to go to work to meet with the new contractor, Fernando (Juan Riedinger), but Rosemary is not having it. No work!

The last of the maps have come in from Pioneer Electric and it appears none of their equipment was near the source of the fire. Inspector Georgie McGill (Melissa Gilbert) returns to Hope Valley with Mountie Elmore Briggs (Austin Landon) and new tech to assist in the fire investigation – a polygraph machine. Georgie is there to help Edie (Miranda MacDougall) with getting the insurance companies to pony up the cash to pay their policyholders what their due.

Gwen Gets Good News About Her Dad

Faith (Andrea Brooks) has news about Gwen’s (Alex MacIsaac) father. Her father, who was injured in the wildfire and could not receive any visitors for fear of infection, was no longer at risk so he is now allowed visitors. Lee tells Gwe they can go visit him today if she wants. They head to Buxton and stop to gas up the car when Gwen gets anxious and doesn’t want to go anymore. As they head back to Hope Valley, Lee makes a pit stop at his favorite fishing hole and asks Gwen if they can stop for awhile to fish. While there, he gets Gwen talking and she confesses that when her mom was sick she visited her every day in the hospital and every one said she’d get better but she didn’t and she died. Gwen’s afraid her father will die also since he’s been in the hospital for so long. Lee assures her that her father is not sick the way her mother was and that he will be ecstatic to see her. This put her at ease. She catches a fish and asks if they can go see her father and they do. When they arrive home, Gwen retires to bed and Lee tells Rosemary how Gwen and her father were happy to see each other and they spent hours talking. It also gave Lee inspiration to spend more time with Goldie (Ellie Sweiss).

Henry Visits Christopher to Dole Out Some Fatherly Advice

Over in Union City, Henry shows up to see Christopher and tells him what he suspects. He also tells him that he needs to come clean or the guilt will eat at him for a long time coming. Henry  tells him, “Don’t trade your humanity for a paycheck.” He offers him up his advice and leaves him to make the decision on his own.

Edie Hosts a Poker Game for the Benson Hills Recreation Center

Lucas (Chris McNally) literally bumps into the new contractor, Fernando. They hit it off like gangbusters. Lucas invites Fernando to the charity poker night, but once they get there, Lucas is about to introduce Fernando to Edie and we discover Edie already knows Fernando. In fact, it appears that Edie used to engaged to Fernando!

Truth Be Told: Dinner Gets a Little Awkward

Over at Elizabeth’s, Bill and Georgie have been invited for dinner along with Nathan and Allie. In their after dinner conversation, Elizabeth says she and Nathan have no secrets to which Bill and Georgie look at each

Bill and Georgie suggest Nathan put his money where his mouth is and use the polygraph. The kids overhear and want to go also. As Mountie Briggs asks questions, Nathan is put in the hot seat whether or not he thinks Elizabeth’s lemon curd is his favorite dessert. When he says yes, the polygraph shows he’s lying. Nathan declares his love for Elizabeth by saying, “I love your lemon curd because I love you!” which prompts Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich), or LJ to say, “Does that mean you’re going to marry my momma?” Before Nathan can answer, Christopher enters.

Christopher Comes Clean

Christopher confesses to everything he knows. There was a transformer there where the fire started. He was told by his superiors, Shelby Whitaker and Patrick McDougall, chief technician to remove it and dispose of it in the river, but he buried it instead. Bill says the maps Pioneer Electric provided shows the transformer was nearly two miles away, but Christopher tells them that the map is a new one and backdated so it’s fraud on top of arson. Nathan tells Christopher that he’ll need to show him exactly where he buried that transformer.

Bill and Nathan later deliver the good news to Toby (Billy Christos Jr.) and Cooper and their families that they are no longer suspects in the investigation.

The next time we see Christopher, it’s with Henry. The two share a drink in silence, both knowing Christopher’s world is about to come crumbling down around him.

Proposal Watch

This week is the closest we’ve gotten to a proposal ever, but still no ring. After the lie detector with Nathan in the hot seat, he comes to see Elizabeth the next morning to tell her his hesitation wasn’t because of what he wants with her or dreams of with her. He takes her hand to his heart and tells her to feel his heartbeat. “This is how I feel about you,” he says. “Can we just leave it there for now?” Let’s hope “now” doesn’t last too long!
