The Harley School in Brighton gets hands-on experience in adapting favorite books into films

BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Students at The Harley School in Brighton got hands-on experience adapting their favorite books into films on Sunday.

The event was part of the 90-Second Film Festival, where students adapted Newbery Award-winning books into short movies. The festival featured adaptations of books like “Charlotte’s Web,” “Holes,” and “The Giver.” James Kennedy, the founder and director of the challenge, said a lot of work went into the final product.

“We are looking over the plot, writing a script, finding a weird twist – so we’re doing Last Stop on Market Street, but as a zombie apocalypse movie – and then we’re shooting these and editing them and hoping over these two days we will have four finished movies,” he said.

Students across the U.S. will submit films, and the best will be shown in several cities, including Rochester. The event is set for Saturday, April 25 at the George Eastman Museum.
