Texas A&M has surprised the SEC and most of the country by being one of the most efficient offensive teams to date this season, but that trend hit a major bump in the road Saturday.
Hosting Todd Golden’s Florida side, the Aggies trailed for nearly the entire game in large part because they could never find any form of an offensive rhythm. TAMU finished shooting 31% from the floor and 26% from behind the arc, and they only managed to score 7 points in transition.
In speaking to the media after the game, head coach Bucky McMillan applauded his team’s defensive effort but knows that the offensive woes are what cost the group first place in the league.
“We couldn’t make a shot in that game. Their defense was great but we just couldn’t take the lid off the basket,” McMillan said. “I thought we played good defense in the first half, but we just couldn’t make a shot to cut into the lead.”
It was just the second time this season that Texas A&M has been held below 70 points. The other instance occurred when Oklahoma State beat the Aggies 87-63 on Nov. 9.
McMillan & Co. will look to bounce back when they host Missouri at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, with the game being broadcast by the SEC Network.
