The ASU Sun Devils swept Arizona on Friday to conclude their regular season competitions with the women winning their 4th straight meet and the men winning their 9th.

    Ilya Kharun split 18.94 on the fly leg of the medley relay, which is the 8th fastest 50 fly split in history.

    Men’s Recap

    Kharun, who recently announced that he was changing his international representation status from Canada to the United States, swam the fly leg on ASU’s winning 200 medley relay. Adam Chaney led off in 20.43 on the backstroke. Andy Dobrzanski swam the breaststroke (23.00). Kharun split 18.94 (8.29/10.65), and Jonny Kulow brought the team home in 18.44.

    Kharun now owns seven of the top-10 fly splits all-time. Jordan Crooks, Josh Liendo, and Gui Caribe each hold one spot.

    Kharun closed out the meet by swimming on the 200 freestyle relay, splitting 18.31 on the ASU ‘B’ relay that finished 2nd. The ‘B’ relay team of Seth Crow (20.11) Kharun, Remi Fabiani (18.35) and Tolu Young (18.59) swam 1:15.36 to finish more than half-a-second behind the ‘A’. The ‘A’ 200 free relay of Quin Seider (19.41), Tommy Palmer (18.40), Adam Chaney (18.50), and Jonny Kulow (18.37) swam 1:14.68 for the win.

    He also won both fly events for the Sun Devils, swimming 44.24 on the 100 fly to come in six tenths ahead of Arizona’s Haakon Naughton, who touched in a personal best 44.80 for 2nd. Kharun’s season and personal best stands at 43.38 from the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge.

    In the 200 fly, he swam 1:38.58, about a second off his season and lifetime best of 1:37.56, also from the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge. He again beat Naughton, who touched in 1:40.77, by about a second.

    ASU had a few other two event winners Remi Fabiani won both the 100 and 200 free, swimming 41.57 in the 100 to touch half-a-second ahead of ASU teammate Jonny Kulow‘s 42.15 and 1:32.27 in the 200 to beat Arizona’s Ralph Daleiden who swam 1:33.38 for 2nd.

    Reece Grady won both distance events for the Sun Devils, coming in ahead of Noah Mudadu in both. He swam 4:21.77 in the 500 and 9:00.84 in the 1000.

    Both breaststroke events went to Andy Dobrzanski swimming 51.47 in the 100 and 1:54.79 in the 200.

    Tolu Young (50 free — 18.91) and Michael Hochwalt (200 IM — 1:47.43) were ASU’s other two individual event winners.

    The Arizona Wildcat men took both diving events along with both backstrokes. Duncan Henderson swam 45.31 in the 100 back to win by more than a second over ASU’s Lucien Vergnes, who was 46.40 in 2nd.

    The 200 back went to Alex Desangles in 1:40.02, four seconds ahead of JT Ewing‘s 1:44.40 for ASU.

    Luke Hernandez won the 1-meter diving event in 384.68 and Bo Bridges scored 351.75 to win the 3-meter.

    Women’s Recap

    Midseason addition Albane Cachot continues to be a major difference maker for the Sun Devils, and her two event wins on Friday helped lead the team to a tight 16-point victory over the Wildcats.

    She won the 100 and 200 freestyle, swimming 47.82 in the 100 and 1:44.34 in the 200 to earn wins by more than half-a-second in both. They were both new personal best times for her as she came in more than sixth tenths ahead of Arizona’s Julia Wozniak (48.49) in the 100 and more than a second ahead of teammate Grace Lindberg (1:45.65).

    ASU’s Alexa Reyna also won two individual events, swimming 4:45.12 in the 500 free to win by half-a-second over Arizona’s Elise Clift (4:45.63) and 9:44.61 in the 1000 free, more than four seconds ahead of teammate Deniz Ertan (9:48.94).

    Julia Ullmann was the final dual-event winner for the Sun Devils, swimming the top times in the 100 fly (52.10) and 200 fly 1:56.31. She won both events by more than a second coming in ahead of Arizona’s Maryam Sheikhalizadehkhanghah (53.48) in the 100 and fellow Sun Devil Sonia Vaishnani (1:58.60) in the 200.

    ASU took both backstroke events with Miriam Sheehan swimming 52.88 in the 100 to touch three tenths ahead of Arizona’s Lila Lillie, who swam 53.14, and Gerda Szilagyi swimming 1:56.52 in the 200 back to win by two tenths over Arizona’s Julia Smurzynska.

    ASU’s final individual event win came in the 200 IM, where Jordan Greber swam 1:59.31 to beat teammate Sonia Vaishnani‘s 2:00.25 for 2nd.

    Despite losing the meet, the Arizona women’s team took the top spot in both relays, and both diving events along with a few individuals.

    They started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, touching in 1:36.11, a new season best time, and just two hundredths off the NCAA qualifying time of 1:36.09 in the event. Lila Lillie led off in 24.56. Eleni Gewalt split 26.58 on the breaststroke, Patricija Kondraskaite was 23.43 on the fly, and Julia Wozniak was 21.54 on the free.

    Arizona wrapped up the meet with the win in the 200 freestyle relay, earning the NCAA ‘A’ cut in 1:27.67, which is the 10th fastest time in the country this season. Riley Botton (22.39), Kondraskaite (21.73), Charlie Millard (22.36) and Wozniak (21.19) came in more than half-a-second under the ‘A’ time of 1:28.26.

    Wozniak also won the 50 free for the Wildcats, who took the top three spots in the event. She swam 22.20 to touch 16 hundredths ahead of Riley Botton‘s 22.36 in 2nd.

    Eleni Gewalt, the breaststroker from the medley relay, swept the breaststroke events for Arizona, setting new season best times of 59.13 in the 100 and 2:11.39 in the 200.

    Finally, diver Zara Ayazi won both boards, scoring 299.40 on the 1 meter and 297.90 on the 3 meter.
