The overlooked details in Epstein’s photos of Andrew that shed light on his visits

Damning new photographs of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor leaning over a woman lying on the floor were taken in convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s New York dining room.

Three photos of this specific encounter are among millions of “Epstein files” released by US lawmakers in the last week that reveal shocking new detail about connections between the disgraced sex offender and some of the world’s rich and powerful.

A forensic analysis of the three photos places them in Epstein’s New York townhouse. Cross-referencing them with floor plans, it is possible to learn more about the five-story Manhattan apartment – where the former prince is known to have stayed – and what he would have encountered while there.

Pressure is mounting on the exiled royal to testify before US Congress regarding his connections to Epstein, who died in a New York prison cell while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

Andrew features a number of times in the documents in email exchanges with Epstein.

The former prince vehemently denies any wrongdoing.

What the Andrew photos tell us

Three images appear to show the former prince barefoot crouching over a woman who is lying on the floor – at one point on all-fours above her, with his arms either side of her body.

His knees are to the left of her. Another image appears to have been taken immediately before or after shows him in the same position, but with his right hand now cupping her waist.

A third photo apparently shows Andrew positioned on the woman’s right-hand side, with his hand on her stomach, and his other on her waist.

The order the photos was taken is not known. The date and time of the photos is also not known but the lights are on in the room which has two large windows, suggesting they were taken at night.

Analysis of other photos taken of the same room in 2019 show it had been redecorated with new wallpaper and carpets since these images of the prone woman were taken. It is not known when the redecoration happened.

How do we know where the photos were taken?

Investigators took exhaustive photos of 9 East 71st Street, Epstein’s New York home. These were released as part of the Epstein files and allow for the images that appear to show Mountbatten-Windsor to be cross referenced with confirmed open-source images of Epstein’s home.

In the image that appears to show the former prince leaning over the woman, the doors to the room he is in are visible, as are details in the connecting room.

The doors have gold lines and circles on them, which matches a number of doors on the ground floor of Epstein’s home.

It is possible to see another distinctive detail: the floor in the adjoining room is white with a repeating pattern of brown marks, with a gap in the pattern by the door near the woman on the floor.

That room also has gold furniture in the corner.

Multiple photos of the hallway match these details.

Looking into the room Mountbatten-Windsor appears to be in, a number of details initially appear to not match Epstein’s dining room: the carpet and wallpaper.

However, on closer inspection, it is possible to see that the room has been renovated but the furniture and layout remains the same. Leopard print chairs, a large sturdy table and a side board with flowers on are all visible in both sets of images. It’s also possible to see one set of the doors leading to Epstein’s juliet baloncy.

Later photos from Epstein’s home show the wallpaper was changed, such as in this photo with the film director Woody Allen, which was also released by the US DOJ. It is not known when this happened.

What else can we learn about Epstein’s apartment?

A side table in the dining room of Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse was photographed by investigators, showing it covered in framed photos of famous faces. This includes an image that appears to show Epstein with US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, as well as Andrew and Epstein pictured in the Royal Box at Ascot, an image previously verified by this newspaper.

Examining the floor plan for the ground floor of Epstein’s home and other photos reveals further details of what Mountbatten-Windsor’s stays at the property would have likely been like.

The hallway has three unique decorations that the former prince may have walked past on his way to the dining room.

Two curled up crying babies are nestled under the golden side table visible in the Andrew photos. Above the hallway fireplace is a surrealist portrait, while hanging from the ceiling is a bride made of dark wood in a white dress and veil handing suspended by a rope.

The toilet directly next to the dining room has a bronze-coloured life-size statue of a smiling young boy wearing a cap and shorts sat on it. A life-size gorilla head hangs on the wall directly above the toilet.

There are also a number of bedroom at the large property, so it is unclear which room Mountbatten-Windsor may have stayed if he stayed overnight.

One, on the fourth floor, is painted bright pink and boasts a mural on the wall of naked women frolicking with animals, including birds and a large lizard.

It is positioned opposite the bed.

A massage room is located on the third floor and is decorated with numerous erotic images.

Andrew was photographed at Epstein’s townhouse in 2010, shortly after the end of Epstein’s prison sentence for sexual offences involving a minor.

He was also photographed walking with Epstein in New York’s Central Park during the same 2010 trip. In his now-notorious Newsnight interview, the former duke referenced his trip, saying: “It was a convenient place to stay.

“I’ve gone through this in my mind so many times. At the end of the day, with a benefit of all the hindsight that one can have, it was definitely the wrong thing to do.

“But at the time I felt it was the honourable and right thing to do and I admit fully that my judgement was probably coloured by my tendency to be too honourable but that’s just the way it is.”
