Non-conference games against South Dakota State and Colorado will be played at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, the lakeside stadium where the team played the bulk of its home games during the new Ryan Field’s construction.
According to school officials, the opening game at the new Ryan Field will take place 100 years to the day that the first game was played at the original Ryan Field on Oct. 2, 1926.
“The opening of the new Ryan Field marks a defining moment for Northwestern Football and reflects our continued investment in excellence across every aspect of the program,” Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Mark Jackson said in a statement. “The opener against Penn State presented by FOX Sports provides us with an extraordinary stage to showcase the incredible stadium and the culture that head coach David Braun has established.”
The Wildcats will also play Ball State, Rutgers, Iowa and Illinois at their new home stadium this season, with the last game of the season against the Illini set for Saturday, November 28.
Single-game tickets will go on sale at a later date for games at the new Ryan Field.
The original Ryan Field opened its doors for the first time in 1926, and remained open through the 2023 season when Northwestern bulldozed the stadium to construct a brand new facility with a seating capacity of 35,000.
The new stadium will feature numerous club and plaza areas, as well as unique dining experiences and a large canopy over the seating area to protect fans from the elements, according to officials.
The Wildcats finished their 2025 season with a 7-6 record, winning the GameAbove Sports Bowl in Detroit against Central Michigan to finish up the campaign.
