18-year-old Irishman John Shortt took the men’s 200m backstroke title, stopping the clock at 1:57.84.
He beat the field handily, as no other competitor cleared the 2:00 barrier. France’s Mathys Chouchaoui snagged silver in 2:01.16 while Olympic medalist Luke Greenbank of Great Britain rounded out the podium.
As for Shortt, his outing overtook the previous meet benchmark of 1:58.03 that France’s Yohann Ndoye-Brouard put on the books two years ago.
Shortt’s lifetime best in this 2back event remains at the 1:56.19 national record he established en route to becoming the 2025 World Junior Championships gold medalist.
GBR got on the board with a gold, courtesy of 21-year-old Olympian Freya Colbert.
The 2024 world champion in the women’s 400m IM tried the 400m free on for size last night, clearing the field in a result of 4:10.59, the 5th-best time of her career.
Versatile Helena Rosendahl Bach of Denmark collected another piece of hardware, hitting 4:14.98 for silver followed by GBR’s Stephanie Benn who captured the bronze in 4:17.17.
Germany’s Melvin Imoudu pulled out the win in the men’s 100m breaststroke, posting a sub-minute result of 59.85.
That kept competitors Filip Nowacki 0f Great Britain and Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands at bay, with the former logging 1:00.16 to the latter’s 1:00.22.
Just 16 years of age, British dynamo Theodora Taylor reaped the gold in the women’s 100m freestyle.
The ace from Wales registered a gold medal-worthy performance of 54.85 to get the job done, splitting 26.55/28.30 in the process.
She notched the sole time of the pack under the 55-second barrier, as Ireland’s Grace Davison was next to the wall in 55.06, followed by Canada’s Leah Tigert whose time of 55.53 garnered her the bronze.
As for Taylor, she’s been as fast as 54.20 in her career with her result here representing her 6th-best ever.

Italian Alessandro Ragaini proved too quick to catch in the men’s 400m free, clocking 3:50.66 to get to the wall first. He’s been as fast as 3:46.66 in his young career, an outing which rendered him the silver medalist at the 2023 World Junior Championships. Last night Tyler Melbourne-Smith of Great Britain settled for silver in 3:51.21 and teammate Kieran Bird bagged the bronze in 3:54.14. Poland’s Dominika Sztandera topped the women’s 100m breaststroke podium, reaching the timepad first in 1:08.07. That beat British swimmer Kara Hanlon by just .01, with fellow Briton Anna Morgan notching 1:08.15 for 3rd place. Olympic medalist Tes Schouten was also in the race, producing a mark of 1:08.19 for 4th overall. The men’s 100m free saw Italy’s Carlos D’Ambrosio grab the gold in 48.36.
