This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Sheryl Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is a distinguished professor at UNC whose work is directly and indirectly helping millions of people nationwide with the Center for Excellence in Assisted Living. The center was first created in 2003 and has been part of UNC for the last 3 years. They work to advance the well-being of those who live and work in assisted living facilities. The center’s mission has 3 prongs: supporting research into best practices to learn how to best serve the residents and the staff; to spread that information to facilities so they can put those best practices into action on the ground; and finally, pushing for government policies to enable facilities to make those positive changes.
