This year, Bookish will be returning for a second season, one which was confirmed before season 1 even debuted. Now, it seems that that confidence in the show's future is continuing, as creator and star Mark Gatiss has revealed work has already started on a season 3.
Gatiss spoke with us while he was at the Radio Times Covers Party 2026, and when asked whether Bookish was a series that could run and run with multiple future seasons, he said: "I bloody well hope so!"
"Yes! I'm writing series 3 now," he revealed. "That might be an exclusive, I don't know!"
Indeed it is. This is the first we've heard of season 3 being in the works, and while the show hasn't yet been officially renewed by U&Alibi, it does seem hopeful that we could hear positive news sooner rather than later.
View Green Video on the source websiteGatiss also jokingly teased what the future of the series would hold beyond season 2, saying: "It would involve books. And murder - never theft."
While fans will no doubt be thrilled to hear that Gatiss is already thinking about the long-term future of the series, in the meantime we still have season 2 to get excited about.
Teasing those upcoming storylines, Gatiss told us: "The first story is set in the world of spiritualism. The second story is about a murder in a tailor shop, and the third story is set in Germany where Book and Jack go to find out what happened to Jack's father, Felix."
Teasing later episodes, when we'll find out more about Book's past with Felix, he said: "Episode 5 [and] 6, that's what it's about. So we will find out what happened, who Felix was, what happened to him, the whole shebang!"
