Macaulay Culkin and Eugene Levy lead tributes to Catherine OHara after Home Alone and Schitts Creek legend dies aged 71

The entertainment world has come out in force to pay tribute to Catherine O'Hara, following the sad news of her death at the age of 71.

O'Hara's death was announced on Friday 30th January, with the star of Home Alone, Schitt's Creek, The Studio and The Last of Us said to have died at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness.

Amongst those who have paid tribute to O'Hara include Macaulay Culkin, the star of Home Alone who played Kevin, the son of O'Hara's character, Kate, and Eugene and Dan Levy, who starred with her in their comedy series Schitt's Creek.

Look below for a rundown of just some of the famous figures who have made statements to mark O'Hara's passing, and pay tribute to her life and legacy.

    Macaulay Culkin

"Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later."

    Dan Levy

"What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years.

"Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke and every member of her big, beautiful family."

    Eugene Levy

"Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honour of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years.

"From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on Schitt’s Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O'Hara family."

    Pedro Pascal

"Oh, genius to be near you. Eternally grateful. There is less light in my world, this lucky world that had you, will keep you, always. Always. The one and ONLY #CatherineOHara"

"Catherine O’Hara. My goodness. Hard to explain the impact she had on comedy. For me, no one better. She was generational. Since SCTV she has been brilliant. Brilliant, brilliant. Funniest ever. Man. We lost a great. A true great. Sending love to Bo Welch and her family. So sad we lost her incredible presence among us. Will always look up to her. Man."

    Seth Rogen

"Really don’t know what to say… I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen. Home Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies.

"Getting to work with her was a true honour. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating. We’re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it."

    Michael Keaton

"We go back before the first Beetlejuice. She’s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend. This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her. Thinking about Beau as well."

    Tim Burton

"Catherine, I love you.  This picture shows how much light you gave to all of us. You were a special part of my life and after life."

    Bryan Cranston

"I am completely devastated today upon hearing of this great lady passing away. Catherine O’Hara was a genius comedic actor, and a beautiful human being. I adored her. We worked together as husband and wife I think three or four times… I’ve lost count. And then again just last year as rivals on The Studio.

"Working with Catherine was like playing tennis with Venus Williams. She never let you feel it - but you just tried to volley the ball back to her, hoping that you can come close to her level of talent. She was brilliant, and joyful.

"I think back on all the years where I laughed so much at what she did on screen… I have to. I need to, because now all I can do is cry. I’ll miss you. Make ‘em laugh in heaven. B"

    Rita Wilson

"Catherine O’Hara - a woman who was authentic and truthful in all she did. You saw it in her work, if you knew her you saw it in her life, and you saw it in her family. Bo, Luke and Matthew, our deepest sympathies. May Catherine rest in peace. May her memory be eternal."

    Christina Ricci

"Was so lucky to work with this icon, one of my hero’s, the great Catherine O’Hara. So sad she’s gone. She was the most wonderful, warmest, kind, hilarious human being and the most talented and brilliant actress. What a loss. Rest in peace, Catherine."

"I join Canadians and fans across the world in mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara. Over 5 decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy — from SCTV to Schitt's Creek. Canada has lost a legend. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who loved her work on screen. She will be dearly missed."

    Justin Trudeau

"From SCTV to Home Alone to her unforgettable role as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, Catherine O’Hara was a beloved Canadian icon with a rare gift for comedy and heart. She made people laugh across generations and helped bring Canadian storytelling to the world in a way only she could. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and everyone who found joy in her work."
