WILLIAMSON, N.Y. — The Town of Williamson is asking people to conserve water because of ice accumulation around its water intake pipe in Lake Ontario.
A post on the town’s bulletin board says water levels are “critically low” because of the ice. The intake pipe isn’t completely blocked, but the town isn’t able to draw as much water as it typically does because of the partial block.
In the meantime, the town is drawing water from other utilities with which it already has connections. Here’s how the town is recommending that people conserve water:
Avoid washing vehicles. Fix any leaks in faucets, toilets, and pipes. Take short showers. Do not let tap water run unnecessarily when using washrooms or hand-washing dishes. Run your dishwasher and washing machine only when full. Contact our water department to turn off water to properties that will be vacant for a long period.The town says crews are working “around the clock” to fix the issue and it has already contacted some of the town’s major water users request that they cut back.
