The Library of Congress has officially unveiled their picks for the 2025 films selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.
As with years past, the movies included in the list have been deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically" important, emphasizing their deep impact on the trajectory of American media.
Among the list of films selected for preservation, the National Film Registry singled out several early silent films, as well as a motley mix of '80s teen comedies, 2000s romantic comedies and 2010s action thrillers.

“When we preserve films, we preserve American culture for generations to come. These selections for the National Film Registry show us that films are instrumental in capturing important parts of our nation’s story,” said Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen.
“We are proud to continue this important work, adding a broad range of 25 films to the National Film Registry as a collective effort in the film community to protect our cinematic heritage,” Newlen continued.
To coincide with the new list, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is set to host a special TV event on Thursday, March 19, screening several films from the registry. The program will be hosted by the chair of the National Film Preservation Board Jacqueline Stewart, who will introduce each of the movies to audiences at home.
