ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The frigid temperatures, bitter wind, and lake flakes will continue this week with a Yellow Alert now up for Friday due to dangerously cold wind chills.
Today we once again will not get out of the teens, with plenty of cloud cover and a wind chill just below zero. Last night a lake effect snow band left up to a fresh 10-12 inches of snow in some parts of Wayne County… That snow band has drifted north at this time and the area as a whole should stay largely flake free for today.
Tomorrow temperatures will drop from the teens to the upper single digits throughout the day as northwest wind brings in colder air and some more lake snow off of Lake Ontario. Snowfall may reach another few inches in some spots east of Rochester. Depending on the exact timing of the snow showers, there may be impacts to the evening commute. Check back in over the course of today as we’ll have more updates.
Friday we have a Yellow Alert for dangerously cold wind chill, with values ranging from -15 to -25 degrees. That will cause frostbite to exposed skin in 30-60 minutes. Do not be outside for extended periods of time unless you are wearing proper clothing. Lake flakes will again be likely east of Rochester.
This weekend the cold pattern does not let up. Both days will be in the teens with wind chills a few degrees above zero. In more national weather news, a nor’easter looks to be developing along the east coast over the weekend, but impacts here will be little to none.
