ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than $17 million is set to revitalize Rochester’s historic Bull’s Head neighborhood following approval at the City Council meeting.
The “West Main Gateway Project” aims to improve the area with road enhancements, additional bike lanes, and sewer upgrades. News10NBC reported from the intersection where West Main Street, Chili Avenue, West Avenue, Genesee Street, and Brown Street converge.
The city plans to reconfigure the intersection to enhance pedestrian safety by improving sidewalks and bike lanes.
Rochester City Council passed four resolutions to fund the project nearly unanimously. Funding sources include over $7.4 million from the federal government, $3 million from New York State, and $1.3 million from the state’s Marchiselli aid program. Additional funds come from the State Department of Conservation, Pure Waters reimbursement, and bonds.
Councilman Michael Patterson voted against the project, citing new requirements from the Trump administration, which the project would have to follow since it receives federal funding.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring.
